Planning a motorsport weekend at Sakhir

What to expect, what to bring and how to plan travel for a race weekend at Bahrain International Circuit.
The Bahrain International Circuit has hosted Formula One since 2004 and draws large crowds for its biggest events, usually in the cooler part of the year. A race weekend is a highlight for many visitors, and a little planning makes it much more enjoyable.
What a weekend looks like
Major meetings typically spread over several days, with practice and support races before the main event. Fan zones, entertainment and sometimes concerts fill the gaps. The Grand Prix runs at night under floodlights, so evening sessions are the focus.
Choosing where to watch
Grandstands around the circuit give different views: the main straight for starts and pit stops, the corners for overtaking, and elevated spots for a wider panorama. Some general admission areas offer flexibility at the cost of comfort. Event organisers publish the options for each meeting.

Getting there
The circuit is around half an hour's drive south of Manama, but traffic on race days can be heavy. Organisers often announce shuttle buses and parking arrangements. If you use taxis or ride-hailing, allow extra time and plan your return in advance.
What to bring
Ear protection is essential, especially for children. Bring sun protection for afternoon sessions and a light layer for the evening, as the desert can cool down. Check bag rules and permitted items for each event, which are set by the organisers.
Beyond race days
The circuit also hosts other events, from endurance racing to track days and concerts. Our circuit listing has more on the venue's history.
Where to stay
Most visitors stay in Manama or around Bahrain Bay and travel to Sakhir each day. Book accommodation early for the biggest weekends, when hotels fill quickly, and factor in the drive time when planning which sessions to attend.
